March 12, 2024In Bamberg County, South Carolina, the school board election process has seen some recent updates. A new bill, H. 5231, introduced in March 2024, proposes changes to the Bamberg County School District’s Board of Trustees structure. According to this bill, the board will now have seven members elected from single-member districts, which align with the Bamberg County Council Districts, and two additional members elected at-large from the county.
The first election under this new structure is set to take place alongside the 2024 General Election. Four of these trustees will be elected from specific single-member districts, and one will be elected at-large. In the 2026 General Election, the remaining board members will be elected. This new system aims to provide a more representative and balanced school board structure.
